On a sunny day in May, the streets of Manchester came alive with the thunderous footsteps of determined runners, among them a dedicated team from Salford Immunology Service (Northern Care Alliance). Dubbed the “Immunology Runners,” this group of healthcare professionals took on the challenging 10km Great Manchester Run with a noble purpose – to raise funds for our work.

The team, comprised of Dr Sai Murng (Consultant Immunologist), Lucy Common (Nurse Consultant), Ivonette Jones (Senior Nurse Specialist), and Michael Common (Lucy’s husband and honorary team member), set out with a goal to raise £500 for Immunodeficiency UK.

Lucy explained the reason they chose Immunodeficiency UK and how the day went: “As a team of health professionals, we value the support this charity gives our patients. The patient information leaflets are used widely in our service to inform our patients regarding their conditions.

There was a great atmosphere as we ran through the centre of Manchester and up to Old Trafford and back. We very much enjoyed the support of the crowd which kept us going for the run.

We are thrilled that we reached our target of £500 and are very grateful for all our generous donations.”

Every step they took and every pound they raised will contribute to our crucial work in supporting individuals with immunodeficiency.

The Immunology Runners have shown that when healthcare professionals and the community unite, they can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by immunodeficiencies.
