When Jim Carvell began planning his 80th birthday celebration, he knew he wanted it to be more than just a personal milestone. As a long-time supporter of Immunodeficiency UK, Jim saw an opportunity to combine his special day with supporting a cause close to his heart.

The celebration took place at The Stables restaurant in the picturesque coastal town of Groomsport, Co Down. Twenty-five close family and friends gathered to mark the occasion, including Michael Ingleston from our Patient Representative Panel.

Instead of traditional birthday presents, Jim made a thoughtful request to his guests: consider making a donation to Immunodeficiency UK. This simple yet impactful idea resulted in an incredible £560 being raised to support our work with patients and families affected by immunodeficiency.

The afternoon was filled with warmth, laughter, and meaningful conversations as friends from throughout Jim’s life came together to celebrate. Over a shared meal, stories were exchanged and memories created, embodying the true spirit of community that makes such occasions special.

We’re incredibly grateful to Jim and his wife Heather for their continued support of our work,” says Susan Walsh, CEO of Immunodeficiency UK. “By choosing to turn his birthday celebration into an opportunity to help others, Jim has demonstrated how personal milestones can create lasting impact for our community.
